Today, Neeco and I went to a scholarship banquet for UWRF. This event brings together scholarship donors and recipients so that the donors can meet us! He did super well while we were there, we took a picture with my donor. I was also able to talk to a bunch of donors and faculty about the ADEPT program and the training that we do. He only ate one cracker off of the ground, which is really good considering that we were at a buffet style of food!
Afterwards because I was dressed up, my friend Grace (not my partner, but another Grace in the program) took some portrait pictures of Neeco and I!!
Neeco's other mom/trainer Grace has a YouTube channel that she posts to about once a week about dogs! It would be really awesome if you would check it out. Who knows, you may see a handsome boy show up a few times and this way you can see what else is going on in his life! She also talks about her therapy dog that she trained, Theo!!
I'm not sure if I ever talked about Percy on here, but last year PawPADs took on a dog that they were hoping to make into a facility dog. However, they deemed him as a little too "weird" for the job, so they are career-changing him into a pet dog!! They are currently looking for someone to adopt this sweet sweet boy, so if you're interested please feel free to investigate him more here!
Here's his copied bio: "Percy is a truly good-looking, personable 3 year old beagle mix. He is healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, crate trained and house broken. He knows basic cues such as sit, down, stay, come, speak, wait, and shake. Percy has only been with PawPADs a few months as we were assessing him for placement in our School Resource Dog program. He is a smart, sweet dog but is a little too “wired” for the type of job we had hoped would be a good fit for him. Percy would do best in an active home or with someone who would like to do some different kind of training/classes with him – he’s eager to participate in everything. On the flipside, he also loves to snuggle in to watch TV or sleep in bed with someone. He does well with other dogs but will sometimes push their patience with his energy. It’s unknown how he would be with cats. He seems to be fine with children but would probably do best with older children."
Today, Dr. Patricia McConnell came to campus to have a luncheon with students and give a talk at the end of the day. Neeco and I went to the luncheon and got to meet Dr. McConnell personally and talk a little bit with her before I had to leave to go to class, but the few minutes we got to interact was truly amazing.
Later in the day, I went to watch her talk. It was truly amazing how she was able to connect human trauma back to animals. Dogs go through traumatic experiences too and she was just able to talk about the trauma she went through and how it helped her with dealing with dogs and their behaviors that result from trauma that they experience. It was truly amazing to hear her talk about resiliency and how we can build it as humans (because some people are born with it), but also how we can help our dogs build it too. I'll put the list for both below! I got to have her sign one of her books for me and we talked a little bit then too. How to get Resiliency:
