Sully
Sully is the first dog that I worked with through the ADEPT Internship. Sully was adopted from the Human Society and after a DNA test we found out he is quite the mix of breeds including: Labrador retriever, German shepherd, basset hound, Samoyed, and giant schnauzer. Sully had a great nose and did awesome with diabetic alert. At the end of the semester we were mainly focusing on generalizing the scent sample to different people, object, and different places in public. Sully did really well at finding exactly where the scent was whether it was in my pocket or behind the leg of a table. Sully was totally content just laying down and sleeping wherever he was. Sully also LOVED the snow so much. He loved to just run around and play in the snow no matter how cold it was. Throughout our semester together we got to celebrate his gotcha day (the day when he became a PawPADs dog) and he went to a work conference with me in Chicago.

Charlie
Charlie is a golden-lab cross. He along with three of his siblings are training in the ADEPT program. I was very excited to get to work with Charlie. From what I saw last semester he loved to work and he also picked up on tasks quickly. He has picked up on so many new tasks this semester faster than I expected him to. I am constantly trying to think about what we can work on next so that I can continue to challenge him. Though Charlie is still young and he loves to play, he knows when it is time to work and will just lay down and sleep until I am ready to go. When we have down time, Charlie has fun playing with his siblings and he also loves to cuddle. At my apartment, he will climb onto the couch with me and either lay right next to me or if I am not doing anything he'll sleep right on me. I cannot wait to see all that he can accomplish this semester.

Peanut
Chester |
Peanut is one of the 4 puppies that started college in the Fall of 2019. She is a full Labrador retriever. Peanut has been so much fun to work with this past semester. She is a very relaxed puppy and was a rockstar at college. We got to see Peanut really come into her personality this semester which was fun to watch. She grew and learned so much this semester and it was so fun to see her tuned into training. She enjoyed playing with her friends but when it was time to work she knew it. Peanut loved to take naps and slept through most of my classes this semester. She was a huge cuddle bug too and just such a sweetheart. I am excited to watch her continue to learn in the coming semesters as she grows up!

Chester is a golden-lab cross and is at college with his three siblings (one of them being Charlie). Chester is two years old now and is so much fun to work with. He is super smart but also such a sweetheart. Chester loves learning new cues and working on refining the tasks that he already knows. He likes his naps that he gets to take in class but also really enjoys playing with his other dog friends when he is not working. Chester also like to snuggle and he really likes to get pets as well. I can't wait to continue to get to work with Chester this semester and see all that he accomplishes!
